This classic murder ballad was written by Marijohn Wilkin and Danny Dill in 1959. Though there have been numerous versions, country singer Lefty Frizzell released it first. Most music fans are familiar with the Johnny Cash, Nick Cave, David Gray, and/or The Band's versions. It's one my favorite Americana tunes.

There was someone killed, 'neath the town hall light
There were few at the scene, but they all agreed
That the man who ran, looked a lot like me
